Rated 3 out of 5 by Cynthia H from For the price I expect better food and service. We ordered several appetizers with an average price of $13 each. Those are prices for fine dining restaurants where the quality of food and service warrant higher prices. I would not eat here without the Restaurant.com certificate. The food was not bad at all, but it wasn't great. I generally love ceviche, just not at Smith Commons. It is too much of a citrus taste. The short ribs were good, but they were room temperature when they came to the table. The spicy Asian wings were actually very good. The service is what is really lacking. It is hard to justify leaving a $15 tip, especially on $75 check, when the service is subpar. Waitstaff need to be trained in providing a higher quality of service for the 20% tip they are trying to earn. It seems as if it is their first time waiting tables.I was told the special of the day was bass. I asked if it was wild caught or farm raised. I was told that it was caught in the Chesapeake Bay. Really??? If you don't know the answer, say you don't know and you will check with the chef. All of our food was brought down at the same time on a big tray. Finer restaurants rarely use big trays to bring food to the table. I felt like I was at Red Lobster or Denny's. While the wait staff is responsible, the restaurant management is accountable. They should train their staff properly and educate them about the food they are serving. Otherwise, reduce prices to align with the quality of food and service they are providing.
